About the position

Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or program director, the Mental Health Worker provides therapeutic interventions for clients and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. The role involves interacting with clients in ways that take into account age-related and specialized educational, developmental, and psychiatric needs of the population served according to therapeutic treatment plans. The Mental Health Worker observes, intervenes, and documents client behavioral and physical responses to therapeutic interventions. Additionally, the worker utilizes approved physical intervention techniques, provides and assists with physical escorts, restraints, and seclusions, conducts searches, and demonstrates an understanding of de-escalation and therapeutic communication techniques. The position also includes leading and co-leading client groups, collecting and recording vital signs and client data, providing clients with an orientation to the unit, and safeguarding clients' belongings. This position floats between the in-patient and residential units as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients considering their age-related and specialized needs according to therapeutic treatment plans.
  • Observe, intervene, and document client behavioral and physical responses to therapeutic interventions.
  • Utilize approved physical intervention techniques and assist with physical escorts, restraints, and seclusions.
  • Conduct searches and demonstrate understanding of de-escalation and therapeutic communication techniques.
  • Lead and co-lead client groups.
  • Collect and record vital signs and client data as indicated by program requirements.
  • Organize and maintain medical charts.
  • Provide clients with an orientation to the unit and safeguard clients' belongings.
  • Float between the in-patient and residential units as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years related experience required.
  • Current CT Driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Service License 'A' Endorsement within 90 days of hire, which requires passing a pre-hire drug screen and DOT physical exam.
  • Must be available to work every other weekend.
  • Must have and maintain a telephone number for scheduling.
  • Computer proficiency and keyboarding skills required.
