About the position

The MEP Preconstruction Engineer at Holder Construction plays a crucial role in leading and managing preconstruction activities related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This position involves collaboration with project teams, vendors, and clients to ensure effective communication and project execution. The engineer will be responsible for estimating, design management, and procurement, while also preparing detailed analyses and recommendations for project bids. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage MEP preconstruction activities, including estimating, design management, and subcontractor/vendor procurement.
  • Communicate with electrical/mechanical equipment vendors, design engineers, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare comparative analysis of previous estimates and explain variances to project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with preconstruction engineers to develop a complete scope of work centered around MEP systems.
  • Prepare detailed analyses of subcontractor and vendor bid proposals, including project risks and challenges.
  • Train and develop preconstruction engineers in technical and non-technical aspects of MEP systems.
  • Lead responses to RFPs to enhance Holder's reputation with clients.
  • Represent Holder at design/coordination meetings and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and clients.
  • Create, update, and present project deliverables and tools to clients.
  • Support meetings with owners, architects, and engineers during the preconstruction phase.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management, or MEP subcontractor preconstruction experience.
  • 2-5 years of preconstruction experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and/or building automation systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, HVAC, plumbing, architectural, and civil plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of MEP systems and equipment.
  • Outstanding communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to change in a professional manner.
  • Proven ability to develop team members and encourage high performance.
