About the position

The MEP Superintendent at Turner Construction is responsible for leading and coordinating the work of subcontractors and trade labor related to mechanical and electrical systems in construction projects. This role ensures safety, quality, and adherence to project schedules and budgets while supervising a team that includes Assistant Superintendents and Field Engineers. The position requires strong leadership, communication skills, and technical expertise in mechanical and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate the work of subcontractors and Turner trade labor regarding mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ensure safety, schedule delivery, quality of work performed, and adherence to project budgets.
  • Manage scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control, and staffing levels for assigned trades.
  • Resolve local area problems regarding procedures, design clarifications, and schedule matters.
  • Manage the overall site safety program and ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations.
  • Supervise and develop Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and interns, including performance appraisals.
  • Create schedules and determine sequencing of work.
  • Develop and implement recovery strategies to maintain project schedule and budget.
  • Communicate with owners and architects/engineers regarding field issues and resolve them.
  • Manage the billing process related to work in place and oversee payrolls, material invoices, and subcontractor payments.
  • Ensure work is installed in compliance with approved contract documents.
  • Coordinate with engineers on mechanical and electrical systems and equipment layouts.
  • Lead project inspections, startup, commissioning, turnover, and training processes.
  • Coordinate and monitor activities of subcontractors and suppliers for conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Review project changes in conjunction with the Project Engineer.
  • Keep detailed daily records of MEPS trade contractors' work progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or at least four years of formal engineering or architectural experience.
  • Minimum of six years of mechanical/electrical/plumbing construction experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of building construction, scheduling, and cost control procedures.
  • Specific knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of building information modeling and its use in project coordination.
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
