About The Position

Westat is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to work as Field Interviewers for the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS). This role involves conducting in-person interviews with households to gather data on health care costs and usage in the United States. Field Interviewers will utilize a Westat-provided laptop for interviews and are responsible for ensuring data security and confidentiality while interacting with participants.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old or older (or an emancipated minor) and able to enter binding confidentiality agreements.
  • Must complete a web-based home study training and a Zoom session prior to in-person training.
  • Must be available for a five and a half day in-person training from March 11 to March 16, 2025.
  • Must be available for additional web-based and virtual training activities after in-person training.
  • Must reside in and travel to the geographic location determined by the project.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Must be willing to travel locally for project work, with some overnight travel as needed.
  • Must meet physical requirements, including lifting 20 pounds, walking several blocks, and climbing stairs while carrying equipment.
  • Must have consistent access to a reliable vehicle and a current valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with computer-assisted in-person and/or computer-assisted video interviewing.
  • Public contact and/or cold calling experience.
  • Comfortable working in unfamiliar locations and communicating with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person interviews with adult members of households using a Westat-provided laptop computer (CAPI).
  • Perform computer-assisted video interviews (CAVI) for returning cases.
  • Contact households in-person and/or by phone to gain cooperation and set up appointments.
  • Collect MEPS-related electronically signed and/or hard copy documents.
  • Report regularly to a field supervisor and complete administrative paperwork.
  • Comply with data security and confidentiality requirements.
