About the position

Mercedes-Benz of Farmington is seeking a Used Car/Inventory Manager who will play a crucial role in managing the pre-owned vehicle inventory while also assisting with new inventory. This position requires a strong leader with a deep understanding of automotive financing, aimed at helping qualified customers secure financing efficiently while maintaining the dealership's credibility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring an exceptional customer experience at all times. In this role, the manager will attend live and online auctions to bid on vehicles for inventory and represent the dealership in selling vehicles from the current inventory. They will assist the General Sales Manager in planning and organizing the sales department's inventory, ensuring that the dealership maintains a strong presence in the local pre-owned vehicle market. The manager will also be responsible for managing inventory turnover and days in the shop, maintaining vehicle inventory levels, and establishing relationships with local dealers for buy bids and trading pre-owned inventory. The Used Car/Inventory Manager will ensure that all cosmetic and mechanical reconditioning is performed within the dealership's cost and time limitations. They will keep informed of auto auction activity and prices, attend auctions regularly, and verify that all company websites and ancillary sites reflect current promotions and pricing. Customer satisfaction is paramount, and the manager will interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner, addressing complaints promptly and following up on inquiries. Regular meetings with Client Advisors will be held to review goals and develop action plans to help the sales team achieve their objectives. The manager will also be responsible for recruiting and training new team members, providing ongoing coaching, and ensuring adherence to the company's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Manage pre-owned vehicle inventory and assist with new inventory.
  • Attend live and online auctions to bid on vehicles for inventory.
  • Assist the General Sales Manager with dealer-to-dealer trades.
  • Build and manage new Mercedes vehicles.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the local pre-owned vehicle market.
  • Manage inventory turn and days through the shop.
  • Maintain vehicle inventory and days' supply.
  • Contact local listings of pre-owned vehicles to acquire vehicles from private sellers.
  • Create relationships with local dealers for buy bids and trading pre-owned inventory.
  • Ensure cosmetic and mechanical reconditioning is performed within cost and time limitations.
  • Keep informed of auto auction activity and prices; attend auctions regularly.
  • Establish positive relationships with customers, vendors, partners, and coworkers.
  • Verify all company websites and ancillary sites for current promotions and pricing.
  • Interact with customers in an enthusiastic, professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Address customer complaints immediately.
  • Meet with Client Advisors regularly to review goals/objectives and develop action plans.
  • Prioritize deals to ensure customers are handled within the 1-hour promise time.
  • Advise the sales team on programs that maximize gross and FI opportunities.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Follow company-approved operational procedures, including plate, key, and lot management procedures.
  • Maintain and upgrade product knowledge of the company's products and services.
  • Strive for harmony and teamwork with all other departments.
  • Responsible for customer data privacy and protecting computers and files.
  • Recruit and train new team members on departmental processes.
  • Provide regular coaching to employees and follow performance management standards.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of previous experience in Automotive Sales Management, preferably in the used car department.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Valid driver license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
  • Current State sales license or ability to obtain one as required by the State.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage and organize time and activities.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to brand dress code.
  • Ability to adopt and support new processes and changes for employee and customer satisfaction.
