About the position

The Merchandiser Operator - Saw Mill position at Georgia-Pacific involves operating and maintaining merchandiser equipment in a lumber facility. The role is crucial for ensuring the production of quality lumber while adhering to safety regulations and operational efficiency. The operator will work in a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, contributing to the overall performance of the mill and addressing any equipment issues that arise during operations.

Responsibilities

• Start up merchandiser equipment on time; return from breaks on time
• Fill out OBC sheets daily to identify potential issues
• Escalate issues in a timely manner to the appropriate personnel
• Address minor equipment issues through repairs and adjustments
• Assist co-workers or perform additional tasks as directed by supervisor
• Operate merchandiser equipment primarily in automatic mode
• Mitigate out of spec logs with the defect saw
• Maintain open communication with all operators to keep the mill productive
• Adhere to safety rules and regulations, including wearing required PPE
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for long periods
• Work in various environmental conditions and rotating shifts as required

Requirements

• Experience in an advanced operator role, above utility/general labor level
• A minimum of one (1) year safely operating machinery or industrial equipment
• Experience troubleshooting equipment in a manufacturing environment

Nice-to-haves

• At least 2 years operating machinery in a Lumber mill
• Green End process knowledge
• Experience operating and interpreting HMIs and PLCs in a manufacturing environment
• Lumber or wood products manufacturing experience
• Experience performing machine maintenance
