About the position

The Merchandising and Inventory Associate at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is responsible for supporting the Jewelry and Wearables categories at the Store at MAD. This role involves managing inventory, merchandising, and customer service related to jewelry and wearables, while also coordinating with vendors and handling custom orders. The position can be part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate's experience and availability, and requires a keen interest in the arts and design.

Responsibilities

  • Create SKUs in Shopify and Purchase Orders in Stocky, receive, ticket, and reconcile invoices.
  • Support the Purchasing Manager with vendor relationships and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain high standards in merchandise handling, jewelry maintenance, presentation, and loss prevention.
  • Provide training to the Store team on new jewelry and wearable artists, offering feedback on content, metal, and carats.
  • Create and manage an updated vendor list organized by jewelry and wearable artists, including stocking artist bios and branded packaging.
  • Perform back-end transactions, including entering product descriptions, checking stock levels, and liaising with customers on custom sales.
  • Meet regularly with the Purchasing Manager regarding inventory levels and oversee backstock organization.
  • Refresh floor merchandise displays regularly before opening or after closing.
  • Oversee returns to vendors, including packing, creating shipping labels, and tracking.
  • Ensure consistent vendor communications and tracking of purchased and consignment inventory.
  • Provide regular reporting and feedback to the Director of Merchandising.
  • Handle all fine jewelry special orders, repairs, and customer service follow-up.
  • Participate in planning and execution of Special Events and Trunk Shows.
  • Attend trainings and development meetings as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Previous experience working in jewelry, accessories, and wearables.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Shopify and Microsoft Outlook/email.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-4 years of jewelry and luxury goods experience.
  • Previous experience working in fine jewelry.
