About the position

The Merchandising Lead at Smith Gardens is responsible for overseeing multiple garden centers and leading a team of merchandisers. This role involves providing in-store assistance, ensuring compliance with merchandising standards, and promoting the Smith Gardens brand image. The position requires regular store visits to maintain product organization and to communicate effectively with store management and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, condense and organize all Smith Gardens product and racks.
  • Remove unsellable merchandise from tables and dispose according to store policy.
  • Put away new orders and restock displays.
  • Ensure all product is signed correctly.
  • Gain insight into sell through and inventory positions primarily through store visits.
  • Execute approved merchandising plans, store layouts, and plan-o-grams.
  • Execute assigned sales plan and Key Performance Indicators for Customer and SGI.
  • Ensure stores are compliant with the Smith Gardens Merchandising Seven Point Checklist at all times.
  • Promote the Smith Gardens brand image of excellence, consistency and professionalism.
  • Help achieve customers' goal to be the garden center of choice for consumers.
  • Communicate store and product conditions on a regular basis.
  • Project a professional image in stores at all times with a neat, professional look that includes a Smith Gardens Logo shirt.
  • Ensure Smith Gardens plants are fully watered and assist as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive business relationships with store associates and all levels of store management.
  • Work as a team member with merchandisers, store employees and other managers.
  • Interact with Smith Garden management, store management and store customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Manage employees: hiring, interviews, schedules, daily activity and timesheets, performance feedback, training/onboarding.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in nursery and bedding plants is a plus.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a current driver's license with auto insurance.
  • Must have a smartphone (iPhone or Android only) with an autofocusing camera and working data plan.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, in person, and via phone or radio with all levels of customers and staff.
