About the position

The MES Systems Engineer at Lilly is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, enhancing, and maintaining the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software application, specifically the Syncade MES. This role aims to optimize manufacturing processes, reduce errors, and increase efficiency by integrating production operations with business systems. The position focuses on the Indy API Manufacturing Site and requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, enhance, and maintain MES solutions that integrate production processes with business systems.
  • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of MES solutions to ensure system reliability and data integrity.
  • Utilize information from MES implementations at other API manufacturing sites to inform training and qualification strategies.
  • Simplify and consolidate procedures and job aids in preparation for MES implementation activities.
  • Ensure MES solutions interface appropriately with other manufacturing systems including DeltaV, Darwin, SAP, and QualityDocs.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends in MES technologies.
  • Document processes and procedures to meet quality and compliance standards.
  • Leverage an agile mindset for the entire solution lifecycle including design, implementation, automation, and optimization.
  • Provide MES support as part of the 24x7 on-call support team.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Establish a strong site culture based on Lilly values and operational excellence standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 1-2 years of experience with manufacturing systems like Emerson Syncade or other MES solutions, or a High School Diploma/GED with 2+ years of relevant experience in Manufacturing Operations.
  • Strong understanding of corporate computer system validation requirements according to Lilly Quality Standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of cybersecurity concepts and best practices related to application and platforms operating within a S95 Architecture.
  • Experience with SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Servers.
  • Experience in Recipe Authoring.
  • Knowledge of ERP, LIMS, or other manufacturing systems interfacing design, development, and/or support.
