About the position

The Metallurgical QA Engineer II at TimkenSteel Corporation plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of steel production at the Gambrinus Steel Plant. This position involves providing technical support for order processing, focusing on first-time quality, on-time delivery, and cost control. The engineer will engage in data analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives within the metallurgical quality assurance group and laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Independent assignment of at least 50% of thermal treat recipes for assigned furnaces.
  • Review process data for orders that fail requirements and propose root cause issues and corrective actions.
  • Interact with various groups on special projects and provide technical support for special order processing.
  • Participate in quality and departmental meetings, serving as a technical expert for thermal treat operations.
  • Work with customer interfaces to resolve claims related to processed orders by analyzing key process data.
  • Collaborate with the Gambrinus Metallurgical Laboratory for accurate analysis and reporting of measurement system data.
  • Generate ideas for continuous improvement within Thermal Treat and Quality Assurance processes.
  • Provide technical support for testing, final test results review, order release, and certification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering with 2 years of experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography.
  • Working knowledge and experience in Outlook, Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Metallography of carbon and low alloy steels.
  • Skilled in Access data queries and data analysis using JMP software.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters Degree in Engineering with experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Material Science with 2 years of experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography.
  • Masters Degree in Material Science with experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography preferred.
