About the position

This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office (WFO), with one vacancy in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. As a Meteorologist, you will perform duties that include integrating forecast weather, water, and climate hazards with associated societal risks to produce and communicate lifesaving impact-based warnings, advisories, outlooks, and general forecasts. You will also develop and deliver interpretive services in the form of Impact Based Decision Support Services (IDSS) to core partners involved in public safety and property protection. Additionally, you will collect, assess, analyze, and integrate meteorological, hydrological, and climatic data to provide forecasts at various levels, and collaborate with colleagues to optimize operational functions of Weather Forecast Offices.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate forecast weather, water, and climate hazards with associated societal risks to produce and communicate lifesaving impact-based warnings, advisories, outlooks, and general forecasts.
  • Develop, produce and deliver interpretive services in the form of Impact Based Decision Support Services (IDSS) that include tailored products, specialized notifications, remote briefings, and/or on-site deployments.
  • Collect, assess, analyze, and integrate meteorological, hydrological, and climatic data to provide forecasts of critical elements.
  • Collaborate and co-create with colleagues to improve and optimize the operational functions of Weather Forecast Offices.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
  • Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • A background investigation will be required for this position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using hydro-meteorological data to monitor geographic areas and assist in the preparation and issuance of warnings, advisories, outlooks, and general forecasts.
