About The Position

The Meter Technician I position at DC Water is responsible for supporting customer services through various field duties related to the testing, installation, maintenance, and replacement of water meters. This role involves working in the field to ensure accurate meter readings and maintaining inventory, while adhering to safety protocols and operational procedures.

Requirements

• Two years of utility experience.
• High School diploma or GED certificate.
• Skill in basic data entry and using computers and mobile devices.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to read maps.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the operation and maintenance of meter test benches.
• Ability to assist with the testing and installation of meters.
• Ability to operate sandblaster and drill press.

Responsibilities

• Perform field tests of meters and record test data.
• Obtain reads from meters in vaults following confined space entry procedures.
• Assist with installing all-size meters and meter transmission units (MTU).
• Program MTUs using mobile devices and troubleshoot transmissions to obtain meter readings.
• Participate in field surveys to facilitate meter change-outs and installations.
• Maintain and record inventory of meters, parts, and tools.
• Complete required forms and reconcile issuance and inventory supply at designated intervals.
• Operate Authority vehicles and maintain them in a clean and orderly manner.
• Report any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
