About the position

The MetroLink Accident Investigations Unit Chief (Technical Manager V) is responsible for overseeing safety inspections, investigations, and compliance initiatives related to rail transit accidents and hazards within the Bi-State Development Agency rail transit system. This role involves coordinating corrective action plans, preparing reports, and ensuring adherence to federal and state safety regulations. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to enhance transit safety.

Responsibilities

• Oversee inspections and investigations involving rail transit accidents and hazards.
• Assist the MetroLink Safety Program Manager with complex inspections and investigations.
• Prepare and review reports and studies on safety inspections and investigations.
• Assist with the development of safety standards and performance audits.
• Participate in rail safety accident investigations and hearings, providing testimony as needed.
• Serve as the department representative at internal safety review meetings.
• Perform risk-based inspections as directed.

Requirements

• Completion of a bachelor's degree in public administration, industrial safety, or transportation system planning.
• Three years of experience in developing policies and procedures, planning compliance initiatives, and performing safety inspections.
• Knowledge of transportation safety and engineering concepts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with investigations of equipment, facilities, vehicles, and personnel.
• Knowledge of engineering and construction management concepts and practices for system safety.
