About the position

The Metrology Manager position at Third Party International (TPI) is a contract-to-hire role focused on supporting a major aerospace supplier in Kalamazoo, MI. The role requires extensive knowledge in programming Zeiss Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and developing standard work processes. The successful candidate will play a critical role in quality management, supplier development, and inspection strategies, ensuring high standards in aerospace manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing component control plans with supplier development engineers.
  • Coordinating closely with manufacturing, supplier development engineers, design engineers, inspectors, and suppliers regarding inspection strategy, GD&T, and control plans.
  • Assisting with recovery efforts on key supplier delivery issues, establishing governance and reporting, conducting deep dives into constraints, and guiding suppliers with corrective actions.
  • Managing source inspection resources at suppliers to drive work transfer velocity.
  • Quickly learning supplier procedures and implementing solutions through relationship building.
  • Participating in supplier site audits and coordinating audits with a cross-functional team to assess supplier product quality.
  • Initiating new vendor quality management, including evaluating process capability and tracking supplier performance.
  • Creating and managing implementation of strategic projects, including project plans and progress reporting.
  • Interfacing with all levels of the organization, suppliers, and customers regarding supplier performance and improvement actions.
  • Reporting out at executive levels on plans and results.
  • Collaborating across the organization to develop and implement systemic solutions to resolve chronic business performance issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years experience with component inspection and advanced metrology equipment, GD&T, CMM (Zeiss Calypso required, Hexagon PC-DMIS nice to have), and creating component control plans.
  • Experience with component manufacturing/machining preferred, not required.
  • 4-year college degree preferred, not required.
  • Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices.
  • Must have advanced computer skills and understanding of electronic processing.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.
  • Must be an innovator and embrace lean enterprises principles and practices.
  • Experience with castings/forgings, knowledge of special processes (anodize, nitride, flat lapping, plating, etc.), and experience with first article inspection and PPAPs.
  • 3D solid modeling, CATIA preferred.
  • Proven experience with managing multiple deadlines with competing customer priorities.
  • Ability to read drawings, interpret dimensioning schemes and GD&T, and counsel design engineers with drawing revisions.
  • Strong computer skills, organization, relational.
  • Experience with AS9100.
