About the position

The Metrology/Pyrometry Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating a team of technicians focused on furnace metrology and pyrometry across multiple furnaces. This role requires expertise in furnace design, combustion systems, and industry regulations, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency. The lead will conduct training, audits, and oversee calibration processes while supporting the overall goals of the metrology department.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a team of 3-6 technicians for furnace metrology and pyrometry.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for lower-level technicians including calibration and temperature uniformity surveys.
  • Audit calibration of all equipment used for calibration.
  • Conduct inventory and ensure availability of tools required for operations.
  • Program and operate various combustion analyzers and troubleshoot furnace issues.
  • Ensure quarterly calibration on all instrumentation and maintain schedules for TUSs/SATs.
  • Coordinate with Southern California Gas Co. for required training.
  • Lead special projects to improve the metrology department.
  • Support planning and coordination of operations to maximize departmental efficiency.
  • Review and update certifications in the metrology department.
  • Audit and retain compliance documents submitted by technicians.
  • Lead cross-functional projects and prepare for internal and external audits.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable in furnace design, refractory, combustion systems, and controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Experience with Honeywell UDC3200, DR4500, and other specified equipment.
  • Knowledge of AMS2750 and NADCAP standards.
  • Understanding of combustion safety and environmental responsibility for furnace emissions.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school or seven years related experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced programming of combustion analyzers.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 86 regulations.
