About the position

The MFLC Assignment Ready Counselor position at Fort Novosel is a part-time, intermittent role focused on providing behavioral health counseling services to military service members and their families. The counselor will work on-demand during events, surges, and summer camps, offering non-medical counseling, training, and wellness presentations. This role requires independent licensure in mental health and the ability to adapt to various military environments and needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling to adults, children, and youth of service members.
  • Conduct assessments, brief counseling, and consultations, and create action plans for clients.
  • Deliver training and health and wellness presentations at military installations.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Build rapport with service personnel, family members, and co-workers quickly and effectively.
  • Adapt to new working conditions and varying location rules with minimal guidance.
  • Participate in regular in-services/training and Quality Improvement committees as assigned.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with military members and their families in various settings.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources and provide appropriate linkages.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the Points of Contact (POC).

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health related field or social work.
  • Current licensure as an independently licensed behavioral health clinician in any state.
  • Ability to accept assignments on short notice, including weekends.
  • Experience working in a school setting for CYB roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution-focused counseling methods.
  • Ability to traverse various terrains and work in outdoor conditions on military installations.
  • Fluency in English and proof of US Citizenship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior military service or strong familiarity with military culture.
  • Experience with child and adolescent development/psychology for CYB positions.
