About the position

The MFT Farmland Protection Project Manager/NRCS Easement Specialist position is a full-time role focused on supporting the promotion and administration of NRCS easement programs, particularly the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program and the Regional Conservation Partnership Program. The role involves collaboration with both Maine Farmland Trust and NRCS, requiring familiarity with NRCS policies and guidance for effective conservation easement program implementation. The position is based in Bangor, with flexibility to work from other locations in Maine or remotely, while being supervised by MFT staff.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and administer NRCS easement programs, including ACEP-ALE and RCPP.
  • Gain familiarity with NRCS policies and guidance regarding conservation easement program implementation.
  • Collaborate with MFT staff and NRCS staff to support farmland protection efforts.
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables related to easement programs.
  • Engage with landowners and stakeholders to facilitate program participation.

Requirements

  • Experience in project management, particularly in conservation or agricultural contexts.
  • Strong understanding of conservation easement programs and policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with agricultural practices and land use issues in Maine.
  • Experience working with government agencies, particularly NRCS.
