About the position
The Capital Construction Manager for the Frederick Douglass Tunnel (FDT) Program is responsible for overseeing major capital improvement projects aimed at modernizing a four-mile section of the Northeast Corridor. This role involves managing the construction phase, ensuring compliance with design documents, and coordinating with various stakeholders to deliver projects on schedule and within budget. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage contractors and ensure safety protocols are followed.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the construction phase of the FDT Program, ensuring compliance with design documents.
- Deliver projects on schedule and within budget while following Amtrak's processes and procedures.
- Review contractor submittals and deliverables, ensuring quality and compliance.
- Coordinate with other contracts, utilities, and departments to ensure resource availability.
- Prepare project status reports addressing forecasted and actual project costs.
- Resolve design and field construction problems as they arise.
- Host or attend progress meetings and report on contract status.
- Assist with negotiation of change orders and prepare contract change notices as needed.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to safety rules and policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Supervisory experience in managing construction contracts.
- Extensive experience in construction and construction management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight constraints.
- Knowledge of scheduling, budgeting, and estimating.
Nice-to-haves
- Demonstrated construction experience in a railroad environment.
- Significant experience in construction management of heavy civil infrastructure projects.
