About the position

The Human Resources Manager at La Porte & Starke Hospital is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing comprehensive human resources programs and policies that encompass staffing, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, and health and safety. This role requires a strong reliance on experience and judgment to effectively plan and accomplish organizational goals. The HR Manager will perform a variety of tasks and lead the work of others, demonstrating a wide degree of creativity and latitude in their approach. This position reports directly to the Regional Director of Human Resources. In this role, the HR Manager will enhance the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices. They will maintain the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions within the organization. The HR Manager will support organizational staff by establishing a robust recruiting, testing, and interviewing program, counseling managers on candidate selection, conducting and analyzing exit interviews, and recommending necessary changes based on findings. The HR Manager will also be responsible for preparing employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs. They will manage a pay plan by conducting periodic pay surveys and scheduling job evaluations. Ensuring effective planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results is crucial, which includes training managers to coach and discipline employees, scheduling management conferences, hearing and resolving employee grievances, and providing counseling to employees and supervisors. Additionally, the HR Manager will implement employee benefits programs, ensuring employees are informed of their benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends, recommending programs to management, directing the processing of benefit claims, and conducting educational programs on benefits. Legal compliance is a key aspect of this role, requiring the HR Manager to monitor and implement applicable federal and state human resource requirements, conduct investigations, maintain records, and represent the organization at hearings. The HR Manager will also be responsible for retaining historical human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system, cultivating professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops and professional societies, and completing operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees. Managing the human resource staff through recruitment, selection, orientation, and training is also a critical responsibility. The HR Manager will communicate directly with the Regional HR Director regarding departmental projects, plans, and staffing, and will contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or similar work experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience in progressively responsible Human Resource roles.
  • 3+ years of experience in Labor Relations or Employee Relations.
  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
