About the position

As a Production Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing overall plant production to achieve key goals in safety, quality, service, waste reduction, cost efficiency, and productivity. This position requires strong leadership skills to effectively manage systems, equipment, personnel, and materials in accordance with established policies, procedures, specifications, and customer requirements. You will report directly to the Plant Manager and oversee a small team of 3-4 direct reports, including Department Managers or Shift Supervisors, in a facility with typically 200 or fewer employees and low to mid-level complexity. Your responsibilities will include acting as a safety leader, working closely with the EHS Manager to establish and maintain safety policies and programs, and participating in incident investigations. You will identify opportunities for improvement by analyzing performance data against key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, waste, and productivity. Collaborating with planning and maintenance departments, you will prioritize equipment maintenance programs to ensure optimal mechanical performance. Additionally, you will work with engineering personnel on new machine installations and start-ups, ensuring that all specifications and training meet production needs. As a leader, you will focus on developing production associates to enhance their skills and capabilities, while also managing human capital for your direct reports, including goal setting and performance management. Compliance with safety and product safety standards, as well as effective communication with all associates, will be essential. You will also manage process control initiatives, participate in budgeting and capital planning, and lead efforts to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the facility. Your ultimate goal will be to meet or exceed the plant's business plan and KPIs, ensuring effective operations and a safe working environment for all employees.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a safety leader and prioritize safety in all responsibilities.
  • Work with the EHS Manager to establish and maintain safety policies and programs.
  • Participate in incident investigations for near misses, injuries, and property damage.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement by monitoring performance data against KPIs.
  • Collaborate with planning and maintenance departments to maximize equipment maintenance programs.
  • Work with engineering personnel on new machine installations and start-ups.
  • Oversee the development of production associates and devise training plans for skill improvement.
  • Manage human capital for direct reports, including goal setting and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, product safety, and company policies.
  • Communicate effectively with all production associates.
  • Manage process control initiatives and ensure manufacturing SOPs are sufficient.
  • Participate in budgeting, capital planning, and staffing to meet financial and operational objectives.
  • Lead and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the facility.
  • Ensure effective and efficient equipment installation and maintenance.
  • Maintain facility/building operations within established budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated passion for safety.
  • 3+ years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in flexible packaging.
  • Proven ability to lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong customer service mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
