About the position

The Manager of Purchasing at Consumers Energy is responsible for enhancing utility processes and developing initiatives to improve business operations and purchasing techniques. This role involves providing leadership and strategic direction for purchasing across various categories, negotiating contracts with suppliers, and managing the purchase order process from creation to delivery. The position requires collaboration with stakeholders to define specifications and optimize spend management opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Build, coach and mentor high performing teams to maximize achievement.
• Provide ongoing training and resources to support effective bidding and negotiation strategies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define category specifications and acceptable service levels.
• Contribute to strategic supplier engagement and develop high-performance contracts.
• Provide leadership and direction to the Strategic Sourcing, Value Analysis and Procurement verticals of Supply Chain.
• Develop strategies to manage spend across various categories including supplies, services, capital and technology.
• Engage in cross-functional teams to share best practices for comprehensive success.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Supply Chain or related field.
• 4 - 7 years of experience in negotiations, business partner relationships, and problem solving.
• In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED with 4 years of relevant working experience.
