About the position

The Resource Manager at Packaging Corporation of America is a pivotal role responsible for coordinating the efforts of customer service, planning, inventory control, and shipping functions to exceed customer expectations. This position is integral to the plant management team, focusing on evaluating opportunities to enhance overall plant performance and profitability. The Resource Manager will ensure that all operations align with the company's goals and customer satisfaction standards. In this role, the Resource Manager will coordinate the efforts of customer service, planning, and shipping functions to meet and exceed plant on-time delivery targets. This includes maintaining and developing procedures to keep the entire order process in control, monitoring orders at the sales point, routing and inspecting all new order quotes, and intervening in case of complicated or unusual orders. The Resource Manager will facilitate first order meetings for all new customers and follow up on all new customer setups to ensure orders are completed appropriately within the plant's existing procedures. Additionally, the Resource Manager will manage open orders and backlog, balancing customer needs with the plant's production capabilities. Oversight of shipping activities is crucial, ensuring that shipping costs and roll-stock inventories are maintained within budgeted guidelines. Participation in daily production meetings and providing updates as needed is also a key responsibility. The Resource Manager will recommend changes and improvements to products, services, policies, and operations to better fulfill customer needs. Providing ongoing direction, guidance, training, and support to staff is essential, which includes making personnel decisions regarding hiring, compensation, evaluation, and disciplinary actions. The Resource Manager will also investigate escalated customer issues by collaborating with associates in production, customer service, shipping, scheduling, and accounting.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business operations or logistics.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in the corrugated industry with a background in customer service, shipping, or production supervision.
  • Three (3) years of previous experience in a supervisory capacity including experience in coaching, training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution.
  • Established knowledge of corrugated and packaging manufacturing machinery, concepts, practices, and procedures including continual improvement processes and safety practices preferred.
  • Basic shipping experience with knowledge of Bill of Ladings, proof of deliveries, and truck loading capacities required.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as experience with manufacturing systems including shop floor and enterprise customer service management software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals throughout the company on departmental procedures, policies, and requests for information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to network and build relationships with individuals of various experience and levels both within and outside of the company.
  • Solid financial and business operations analysis skills with the ability to identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to create new business opportunities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently.
  • Strong listening, evaluating, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create alternative solutions and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.
