The Hartford's Group Benefits IT Team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced IT Leader to fill the role of Software Engineering Manager. This position is pivotal in driving the transformation of our application landscape, with end-to-end accountabilities in Engineering and IT Operations within the aligned application portfolio. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical leadership skills, excellent partnership with stakeholders, and solid technical acumen. They will be responsible for delivering quality technical solutions while setting and executing a strategic technical vision to ensure that systems are stable, performant, and secure. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will manage a team of over five software engineers, acting as the go-to technical leader for the software applications supported. This role requires a deep and broad knowledge of technologies, applications, integration, interfaces, and the business domain. You will serve as a key liaison between the architecture and technical delivery teams, influencing the technical strategy for the organization while considering its cross-functional impacts and architecture rationalization. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work with various teams to identify opportunities for integration across tools used in the software development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, test automation, and platform configuration management. You will be expected to communicate potential risks, mitigations, and business impacts transparently and concisely. Additionally, you will be responsible for hiring, training, and developing talent, monitoring team morale, and fostering a highly effective and collaborative environment. The position also involves overseeing technical deliverables, coaching and mentoring software engineers, and enforcing development guidelines and best practices. You will drive innovation by leveraging technology to solve customer problems and proactively address technical issues that could impact project scope and application integrity. Working closely with stakeholders, you will design and document solutions that align with business needs and adhere to the architectural vision.
