About the position

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is at the forefront of reimagining how audiences experience their favorite stories through innovative technology. As part of this dynamic team, the Manager of Technical Program Management will play a crucial role in leading the development, rollout, and adoption of programs that enhance the functionality of services across Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+. This position is integral to ensuring that the various components of the organization work seamlessly together to achieve business goals and objectives. In this role, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive project plans and driving the end-to-end execution of multiple programs across various teams. You will ensure that all dependencies are understood and that business partners are kept informed of progress. Collaborating closely with engineering, product management, and cross-functional leaders, you will align on the roadmap, vision, and strategy for the organization. Your ability to influence direction and drive alignment will be key in reducing complexity across commerce teams. As a leader, you will focus on developing and strengthening your team through mentoring and hiring, while implementing an organizational structure that enables efficient scaling and operation. You will partner with engineering to ensure that developed solutions strike the right balance between cost and benefit, are highly scalable, and meet business goals and customer needs. Your proactive approach and initiative will be essential in navigating complex stakeholder requirements and identifying effective solutions. You will also be expected to constantly evaluate processes and seek improvements at every iteration, ensuring that the team remains agile and responsive to changing business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project plans and drive end-to-end execution and delivery of multiple programs across multiple teams.
  • Ensure all dependencies are understood while keeping business partners informed on progress.
  • Work with engineering, product management, and cross-functional leaders to align on the roadmap, vision, and strategy for the organization.
  • Influence direction and drive alignment to help reduce complexity across the commerce teams.
  • Lead, develop, and strengthen the team through mentoring, hiring, and implementing an organizational structure that enables efficient scaling and operation.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure developed solutions balance cost vs benefit, are scalable, and meet business goals and customer needs.
  • Display initiative and take a proactive approach in discussions and negotiations.
  • Identify solution paths for competing requirements or stakeholder preferences.
  • Learn quickly about technical systems and issues, demonstrating enthusiasm.
  • Constantly evaluate processes and seek improvements at every iteration.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in technical program management or related fields.
  • B.S in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of staff management experience, mentoring staff into leadership roles.
  • Proven track record with Agile project management as a Program Manager, Project Manager, or Scrum Master for software development teams.
  • Knowledge of servant leadership, conflict resolution, and continual improvement.
  • Analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems.
  • Technical knowledge of architecture and development practices.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate team vision and technical concepts to multi-functional partners.
  • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • CSM / CSP Certification preferred.
  • Experience in streaming media software and digital technology.
  • Experience with frontend, backend systems, machine learning, and personalization.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency through coding skills, quality assurance experience, or technical writing background.
