About the position

KIPP Miami is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. As part of the KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) national nonprofit network, KIPP Miami is committed to providing a world-class education to students in grades K-8. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader who thrives in an inclusive classroom environment, working collaboratively with general education teachers to support students with diverse learning needs. This role is not just about teaching; it’s about inspiring students to reach their full potential and preparing them for success in college and beyond. In this position, the Special Education Teacher will be responsible for creating and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the Child Response Team. The teacher will employ multi-sensory teaching strategies tailored to the specific disabilities of students, ensuring that all modifications and accommodations are effectively integrated into the classroom and testing environments. The role also involves providing small group support and one-on-one instruction as needed, tracking student performance, and using data to inform teaching practices. The Special Education Teacher will actively participate in annual IEP meetings, communicate progress to stakeholders, and engage in school events and activities outside of regular class hours. Responsibilities

  • Teach in an inclusive class, sharing all responsibilities with a general education teacher.
  • Provide resource small group support as needed.
  • Provide alternative or parallel teaching to a group of students and provide 1:1 teaching, as needed.
  • Employ multi-sensory teaching strategies and specialized instruction based on students' specific disabilities.
  • Implement all modifications and accommodations for the classroom and in testing.
  • Create IEPs in collaboration with the Child Response Team to ensure services are delivered at a high level and in compliance.
  • Use student IEPs, evaluations, and present levels of performance to ensure services are delivered at a high level.
  • Collaborate with the student support team to conduct annual IEP meetings.
  • Use data to responsively teach to mastery of academic skills.
  • Track student performance and progress and be responsible for continual improvement in student growth objectives.
  • Administer and track weekly assessment data to monitor progress towards grade level goals and IEP goals.
  • Create action plans to improve performance when students are not on track to meet goals.
  • Consistently and clearly communicate progress to all shared stakeholders.
  • Participate in school, departmental, and parent meetings.
  • Participate in school events, activities, and programs both during and outside of regular class instruction hours.

Requirements

  • A belief in every student's limitless potential.
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Appropriate state teaching certification completed or in process of being completed.
  • Subject matter expertise in Special Education.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience, with demonstrated interest in working with students from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • A track record of success in the classroom.
  • A collaborative attitude towards teaching and learning.
