About the position

GDIT is seeking a Senior Scientist to join a multidisciplinary team in San Antonio, Texas. This role involves initiating and executing scientific research, particularly in the areas of biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology. The Senior Scientist will contribute to meaningful projects, draft technical reports, and present research findings in various public forums. The position requires a strong background in laboratory research and the ability to communicate complex technical results to non-specialist audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute laboratory research including drafting animal-use protocols.
  • Draft technical reports and journal articles documenting study results.
  • Organize technical data and reports into summaries for management or customer review.
  • Explain technical results to a non-specialist audience.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Present research results in public forums such as conferences and customer briefings.
  • Investigate the biological effects of electromagnetic fields and novel forms of electromagnetic energy.
  • Maintain and breed rodent models, including handling, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
  • Conduct sterile cell culture of human induced and embryonic stem cells and 3D brain organoids.
  • Perform DNA/RNA/protein extraction and various molecular biology techniques.
  • Maintain and purify bacterial, fungal, and viral cultures, and conduct microbiological assays.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one required.
  • Masters/PhD equivalent degree in immunology, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, or related fields.
  • 3-4 years of relevant laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and innovative environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with grant and manuscript preparation.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques.
