About the position

GDIT is seeking a Senior Microbiologist to conduct scientific research and analysis in a laboratory setting. This role involves planning and executing laboratory research, drafting technical reports, and presenting findings to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. The position requires collaboration within a multidisciplinary team and focuses on the biological effects of electromagnetic fields, utilizing various laboratory techniques and methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute laboratory research including drafting animal-use protocols.
• Draft technical reports and journal articles documenting study results.
• Organize technical data and reports into summaries for management or customer review.
• Explain technical results to a non-specialist audience.
• Participate in special projects as required.
• Present research results in public forums such as conferences and customer briefings.
• Conduct investigations of the biological effects of electromagnetic fields.
• Maintain and breed rodent models, including handling, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
• Perform sterile cell culture of human induced and embryonic stem cells.
• Conduct molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA/protein extraction and qRT-qPCR.
• Maintain and purify bacterial, fungal, and viral cultures in microbiology and immunology studies.
• Prepare samples for histology and imaging, including microscopy and staining.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one required.
• Masters/PhD equivalent degree in immunology, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, or related fields.
• 3-4 years of relevant laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with grant and manuscript preparation.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques.
