About the position

The Microbiology and Molecular Manager will oversee the daily operations of the microbiology and molecular services laboratory at a 622-bed teaching hospital. This role involves managing laboratory staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining quality assurance while contributing to the overall productivity and efficiency of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the microbiology and molecular services laboratory.
• Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and quality assurance in laboratory operations.
• Supervise laboratory supervisors, clinical staff, and support staff.
• Evaluate laboratory operations in consultation with pathologists and report results according to mandated protocols.
• Maintain medical laboratory equipment performance and ensure staff compliance with operational procedures.
• Manage medical laboratory supplies inventory and anticipate needed supplies.
• Monitor laboratory productivity and identify peak and slack periods.
• Participate in the hospital quality assurance program and perform proficiency surveys.
• Recruit, select, orient, train, and evaluate laboratory staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in biology.
• SBB(ASCP) certification.
• 5 years of experience managing a high volume and complex microbiology and molecular laboratory.
• Ability to manage and author processes and procedures.
• Experience in training and presenting technical information to staff.
• Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes.
• Fiscal and budgeting responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves
