About the position

The Microbiology Medical Laboratory Technician at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is responsible for performing various laboratory procedures involving analytical testing of blood and human biological specimens. This full-time position requires independent judgment under general supervision and involves pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities. The technician will also participate in customer service and maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified.
• Exercise independent judgment under general supervision.
• Conduct analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens.
• Perform pre-analytical activities including equipment maintenance and specimen collection.
• Execute all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately according to hospital procedures.
• Report results of laboratory testing, including highly abnormal results, in accordance with hospital procedures.
• Resolve customer service issues and support education to clinical staff as needed.
• Participate in laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities.
• Adhere to hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and protect confidentiality of patient information.
• Follow safety policies including the use of PPE and hazardous chemical handling.
• Assist in new employee training and orientation.
• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent OR 2 years post-secondary education in Chemical Science or Biologic Science.
• Five years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Licensed by the State as required for Medical Laboratory Technician level in appropriate specialties.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
