About the position

The Microbiology Medical Lab Technician at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is responsible for performing various laboratory procedures involving analytical testing of blood and human biological specimens. This full-time position requires independent judgment under general supervision and includes pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities. The role emphasizes outstanding customer service and adherence to safety and compliance regulations while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Responsibilities

• Perform various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified.
• Exercise independent judgment under general supervision.
• Conduct analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens.
• Participate in pre-analytical activities including equipment maintenance and specimen collection.
• Perform all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately according to hospital procedures.
• Report results of laboratory testing in accordance with hospital procedures.
• Provide resolution to customer service issues and support education to clinical staff as needed.
• Participate in laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities.
• Adhere to safety policies and protect confidentiality of patient information.
• Assist in new employee training and orientation.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
• Five years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Licensed by the State as required for Medical Laboratory Technician level in appropriate specialties.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English with diverse backgrounds.
