About the position

The Microsoft Office Specialist Database Administrator I position is a temporary role within the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources, specifically assigned to the Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. This position is located in Raleigh, NC, and is designed for individuals who are fully qualified for the job. The role involves managing databases, creating and modifying tables, and developing queries. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining Access database objects, including tables, relationships, data entry forms, multilevel reports, and multi-table queries. This position does not offer leave or retirement benefits, but temporary employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

Responsibilities

  • Manage databases and ensure their integrity and security.
  • Create and modify tables and queries as needed.
  • Develop and maintain Access database objects including tables, relationships, and data entry forms.
  • Generate multilevel reports and multi-table queries to support departmental needs.
  • Communicate effectively with systems end-users and IT management to establish working relationships.
  • Organize and implement a variety of work projects with both short and long timeframes.
  • Train other workers on database management and usage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an IT related field with one year of experience in programming and applications analysis including the design and maintenance of an integrated database system.
  • Associate degree in Computer Science or an IT related field with two years of experience in programming and applications analysis including the design and maintenance of an integrated database system.
  • High School diploma or GED with five years of experience in programming and applications analysis including the design and maintenance of an integrated database system.
  • Knowledge of principles behind the administration and structuring of an integrated database system.
  • Understanding of applications analysis and programming techniques.
  • Experience with utility database administration tools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral form with systems end-users and IT management.
  • Ability to organize and implement a variety of work projects with short and long timeframes.
  • Ability to train other workers.
  • Experience with underlying OS level technology supporting the database environment.
  • Understanding of data and database security techniques.
