About the position

The Microsoft SQL DBA II position at North Wind Solutions is a critical role that serves as a Subject Matter Expert for Microsoft SQL database technology. This position involves the application of routine SQL principles, focusing on the creation, performance, maintenance, and overall operability of databases and applications. The candidate will be responsible for managing compute resources, operations, support, and maintenance activities assigned for databases, as well as the underlying technology. This role is integral to the team that handles day-to-day activities, including break-fix support, data calls, audits, and general support tickets assigned to the SQL DBA team. Additionally, the individual will engage in long-range planning alongside application owners for SQL database upgrades. In this role, the candidate will implement and maintain the operational status and design of databases across multiple platforms and computing environments. Responsibilities include providing database backup and recovery, maintaining security and integrity controls, and monitoring database availability. The candidate will also be involved in database creation, cloning, and recovery, management of operational procedures, systems environment management, and database health. Furthermore, the role requires backup and recovery strategy planning and implementation, assisting with individual system environment transition planning, and maintaining and creating Windows and SQL PowerShell scripts for SSIS, SSRS, and PowerBI. Occasional off-hours and weekend support may be required, emphasizing the need for flexibility and commitment to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain operational status and design of databases across multiple platforms and computing environments.
  • Provide database backup and recovery services.

  • Create, clone, and recover databases as needed.
  • Manage operational procedures and systems environment management.
  • Ensure database health and performance.

  • Provide occasional off-hours and weekend support as required.

Requirements

  • BA or BS in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent professional SQL experience.
  • Subject matter expert in database management and technology across multiple operating systems.
  • Minimum of four years of Microsoft SQL Database Administration experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to various stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for database integrity, performance, and security issues.
  • Knowledge of current technical standards, SQL concepts, and administrative database tools.
