About the position

As a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator at Peraton, you will play a crucial role in supporting a prestigious national intelligence program. This position involves a variety of responsibilities centered around database administration, including the installation and maintenance of database management software, as well as the design and implementation of predictive analysis. You will be tasked with configuring, provisioning, operating, and administering database management systems and related software, ensuring that backend storage servers and hardware platforms are optimized for performance and reliability. Your role will also include designing, installing, monitoring, maintaining, and fine-tuning production databases to ensure high data availability. You will contribute to the development and implementation of database policies and procedures that maintain data integrity and availability, including managing software updates. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with development, business, and operations teams to ensure the security and confidentiality of data. You will take ownership of the availability, reliability, and integrity of business data stored in production databases, making your contributions vital to the success of our national security efforts. Responsibilities

  • Perform database administration activities, including the installation and maintenance of database management software.
  • Design and implement predictive analysis for database systems.
  • Configure, provision, operate, and administer database management systems and related software.
  • Design, install, monitor, maintain, and fine-tune production databases to ensure high data availability.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of database policies and procedures to maintain data integrity and availability.
  • Collaborate with development, business, and operations teams to ensure data security and confidentiality.
  • Take ownership of the availability, reliability, and integrity of business data stored in production databases.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with SQL Server database administration.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 8+ years of relevant experience; additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain SCI and pass a polygraph exam.
  • Active Security+ certification (DoD 8570 Baseline certification for IAT Level 2).
  • Ability to install, configure, and maintain database management systems according to project requirements.
  • Experience performing regular backups of all databases to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Ability to implement and maintain database security measures, including user access control and encryption.
  • Experience monitoring database performance and optimizing queries and indexes for improved efficiency.
  • Ability to handle database migrations and upgrades with minimal downtime and data loss.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with application developers and system administrators.
  • Knowledge of DOD policies, best practices, and industry standards for database administration.
  • Experience with implementation of Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG).
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Operating System and upgrading major database instances.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to design, develop, and document technical solutions, standard operating procedures, and change requests.
  • Experience with capacity planning, utilization, and performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with writing SQL queries to generate system data reports and modify data as necessary.
  • Experience in database design and development.
  • Experience architecting, designing, developing, and managing databases using relational databases.
