About the position
The position involves providing advanced and basic life support to sick and injured individuals in a pre-hospital setting, under the direction of an Emergency Department Physician. The role emphasizes outstanding customer service and maintaining respectful relationships with all individuals. The paramedic will assess patients, provide necessary medical interventions, and communicate effectively with medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to prioritize medical procedures.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Provide patient extrication and hemorrhage control, and monitor IV administration.
- Perform basic patient care skills such as airway management, CPR, and wound care.
- Utilize advanced life support skills including intubation, IV initiation, and medication administration.
- Assess and treat various emergencies including trauma, respiratory issues, and environmental emergencies.
- Communicate patient conditions and treatments to Emergency Department staff via radio and cellular phone.
- Drive the mobile intensive care unit safely to and from the scene.
- Abide by privacy regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Serve a diverse population from newborns to geriatrics.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved MICT - Paramedic course.
- Current Kansas MICT-Paramedic certification.
- Valid Kansas driver's license.
- PALS certification within 90 days of start date.
