About the position

The Mid-Level Electrical Engineer position at Sargent & Lundy involves working within project teams in the Energy & Industrial Group, focusing on power generation, plant design, and renewable energy projects. The role includes designing, modifying, and analyzing electrical systems for various projects, including solar PV installations and industrial plant designs. The engineer will be responsible for power distribution designs, preparing specifications for electrical equipment, and ensuring compliance with specifications and codes. Responsibilities

  • Work in a project team environment with engineers and designers on electrical systems design, modification, and analysis.
  • Assist project lead in ensuring projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinate systems design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare functional design drawings including single line, relay and metering, cable block, and schematic diagrams.
  • Prepare detailed calculations, including auxiliary power system studies, voltage drop, protective relay settings, and arc flash calculations.
  • Interface with vendors to prepare bills of material and equipment purchase specifications and provide recommendations to the client.
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely, meeting client requirements and S&L formats.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Requirements

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required, with an emphasis in power systems preferred.
  • 3 or more years of experience in power plant or industrial plant design, focusing on integrated, detailed system design for new facilities or modifications of existing facilities.
  • Experience in the selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and preparation of calculations and specifications.
  • Experience with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems, communication systems, and analytical calculations.
  • Technically knowledgeable of available electrical power distribution equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Experience performing calculations in ETAP and/or SKM.
