About the position

As a Mid-Level Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at Sargent & Lundy, you will play a crucial role in the digitization of nuclear power plants, which are recognized as a carbon-free energy source. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage and expand your engineering expertise within a multi-discipline team focused on Instrumentation and Control projects in the nuclear sector. Your work will involve a synergistic integration of electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering principles, alongside control theory, to enhance the operational efficiency and safety of nuclear facilities. In this role, you will engage with a variety of electronic process sensors, digital controllers, and network topologies, as well as touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors. You will be responsible for preparing specifications for the procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment, conducting engineering calculations, and ensuring that all components meet the necessary standards and requirements. The position also emphasizes professional development through mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training, allowing you to deepen your knowledge and skills in your engineering discipline. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews, as well as to plant site locations for project coordination and field verification of designs. Your support will also extend to station outage activities as required, ensuring that projects are executed smoothly and efficiently. This hybrid position allows for a flexible work environment, combining both remote and on-site responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a multi-discipline engineering team involved in nuclear power plant Instrumentation and Control projects.
  • Engage with electronic process sensors, digital controllers, network topology, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors.
  • Prepare specifications for the procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment.
  • Conduct engineering calculations related to instrumentation and controls.
  • Participate in mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training to enhance engineering skills.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for project coordination and field verification of designs.
  • Support station outage activities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
  • Experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably in the nuclear sector.
  • Strong understanding of control theory and its application in engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical specifications and conducting engineering calculations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline engineering team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital controllers and network topology in industrial applications.
  • Familiarity with nuclear power plant operations and safety standards.
  • Previous experience in project coordination and field verification.
