About the position

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mid-Level Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our expanding team in Phoenix, Arizona. This position is integral to our efforts in supporting nuclear power generation clients as they digitize existing power plants and develop new facilities, including small modular reactors (SMR). As a mid-level design engineering role, you will encounter a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities within the field of nuclear Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, providing an excellent platform for career advancement. In this role, you will collaborate closely with discipline engineers and designers on the Project Team, as well as with clients, to ensure that all client requirements are met satisfactorily. Your responsibilities will encompass major process controls engineering projects, focusing on areas such as digital systems, including PLC, DCS, touchscreen displays, network switches, and control systems. You will also be involved in creating functional requirement and procurement specifications for instrumentation and control systems tailored for nuclear power plants, as well as conducting process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports. Your duties will include preparing documentation for design input for drawing production, which involves creating cable block diagrams and schematics. You will interface with vendors to prepare equipment purchase specifications and generate reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely to meet client requirements. Additionally, you will attend client meetings and perform site walkdowns to ensure client satisfaction with our deliverables. As a mentor, you will provide guidance in the development of less experienced nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineers. This position operates on a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office work three days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with discipline engineers and designers on the Project Team to meet client requirements.

Requirements

  • BS degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in design engineering for process control systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in design engineering for nuclear power plant control systems.
  • PE license.
