About the position

WSP USA is seeking a Mid-Level Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to join their multidisciplinary Process Infrastructure and Design team. This role involves working on diverse projects related to Environmental Infrastructure, renewable energy, and industrial facilities. The engineer will develop I&C design documents, collaborate with cross-discipline teams, and ensure compliance with industry standards while contributing to project goals and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a variety of I&C design documents such as design drawings, technical specifications, and design basis calculations with minimal oversight.
  • Work efficiently to assure that project schedules and budgets are met.
  • Collaborate in cross-discipline teams to meet project goals.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and internal procedures.
  • Conduct quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and technical specifications.
  • Review instrument and control systems vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and clients.
  • Participate in the development and design review of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Prepare control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect diagrams, and System Architecture Diagrams.
  • Prepare I&C lists such as equipment list, IO list, and Instrument Index.
  • Perform instrument sizing calculations and selection.
  • Prepare Instrumentation Datasheets for instruments and valves.
  • Provide configuration and develop programming for controls equipment, including PLCs and HMIs.
  • Participate in client and project review meetings.
  • Prepare technical bid evaluations and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Collaborate with project management to develop project budgets and schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an ABET accredited program.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in instrumentation and controls engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable design standards such as API, NFPA, ISA, and IEEE.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and Projects.
  • Ability to maintain and update knowledge of current industry trends and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, approximately 10%.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineer in Training Certification and the ability to obtain a PE.
  • Prior design experience in relevant fields.
  • Design-Build project execution experience.
  • Competence in AutoCAD, Revit, or other design programs.
  • Experience with mining, oil and gas, water treatment, and municipal facilities projects.
