About the position

The Mid-Level Linux Systems Administrator at BAE Systems is responsible for providing comprehensive support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems. This role involves managing the IT system infrastructure and overseeing all processes related to these systems. The administrator will support IT systems through day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for various devices including client/server/storage/network devices and mobile devices. In this position, the administrator will provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) support, identifying, diagnosing, and resolving problems. They will also be responsible for escalating issues and communicating status updates to agency management and internal customers. The role includes configuring and managing UNIX and Windows operating systems, installing and loading operating system software, troubleshooting, maintaining system integrity, and configuring network components. Additionally, the administrator will implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance. The Level 1 System Administrator must possess capabilities such as optimizing system operations, resource utilization, and performing system capacity analysis and planning. This position requires a proactive approach to managing the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems, as well as providing assistance to users in accessing and utilizing these systems effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems
  • Manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution of problems
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) support for problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution
  • Support IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for all client/server/storage/network devices and mobile devices
  • Support escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers
  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization
  • Perform system capacity analysis and planning

Requirements

  • Five (5) years experience as a System Administrator in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • IAT Level II Certification required
  • Five (5) years of additional System Administrator experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
