About the position

TEKsystems is seeking a Mid Level Network Engineer/Administrator to support a Department of Defense (DoD) program in Rhode Island. The role requires an active Secret clearance and involves troubleshooting network issues, handling maintenance tickets, and installing/upgrading network devices. The engineer will work on layer 1-3 issues and be responsible for ensuring network reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

• Handle outage and maintenance tickets servicing users through onsite and remote troubleshooting assistance for layer 1 - 3 issues.
• Perform hardware installations of new and upgraded routers, switches, McAfee intrusion prevention systems, Aruba wireless controllers, and Riverbed Steelhead WANX's.
• Troubleshoot outages and resolve network-related issues.
• Install and upgrade network devices and components, including switches, routers, and network monitoring devices.
• Understand, implement, and follow processes in accordance with current policies and procedures.
• Investigate, resolve, document, and report the cause and corrective actions in the Incident Management System for all incidents assigned by the Service Desk.

Requirements

• Must have an active Secret clearance.
• Must have CompTIA Security+ Certification.
• Must have CCNA or be able to obtain in 6 months.
• 4+ years of experience with Cisco technologies and network technologies.
• Fundamental understanding of the OSI Model is required.
• Experience with operational support and configuration of network devices in a large LAN/MAN/BAN/WAN environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP is a plus.
• Experience working with wireless technologies, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and WAN Accelerators is highly desirable.
