About the position

TEKsystems is seeking a Mid Level Network Engineer/Administrator to support a Department of Defense (DoD) program in Newport, Rhode Island. The role requires an active Secret clearance and involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading network devices and systems. The engineer will handle outage and maintenance tickets, perform hardware installations, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures while documenting incidents in the Incident Management System.

Responsibilities

  • Handle outage and maintenance tickets servicing users through onsite and remote troubleshooting assistance for layer 1 - 3 issues.
  • Perform hardware installations of new and upgraded routers, switches, McAfee intrusion prevention systems, Aruba wireless controllers, and Riverbed Steelhead WANX's.
  • Troubleshoot outages and resolve network-related issues.
  • Act as the local element for COMSEC, providing briefings on troubleshooting TACLANES and trained to re-key the TACLANES.
  • Install and upgrade network devices and components, including switches, routers, and network monitoring devices.
  • Understand, implement, and follow processes in accordance with current policies and procedures.
  • Investigate, resolve, document, and report the cause and corrective actions in the Incident Management System for all incidents assigned by the Service Desk.

Requirements

  • Must have an active Secret clearance.
  • Must have CompTIA Security+ Certification.
  • Must have CCNA or be able to obtain in 6 months.
  • 4 years of experience with Cisco technologies and network engineering.
  • Knowledgeable in Ethernet and IP data engineering.
  • High level of project coordination skills to manage maintenance activities and network outages.
  • Fundamental understanding of the OSI Model.
  • Experience in operational support and configuration of network devices in a large LAN/MAN/BAN/WAN environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP.
  • Experience with wireless technologies, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and WAN Accelerators.
