About the position

The Mid-Level PTE P&C Technician role at POWER Engineers involves performing testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations. The position emphasizes safety, technical service, and client satisfaction, with a focus on hands-on testing of protective relays and supporting project leads. The technician will engage in technical and safety development, document test results, and manage clerical responsibilities related to project reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations
  • Conduct on-site hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150
  • Support Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis - JHA
  • Accurately document test results and produce field reports in the requested format
  • Read and understand electrical drawings and schematics
  • Perform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports

Requirements

  • Five (5)+ years of professional experience in the electrical testing industry
  • Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families)
  • Technical skills related to protective relays including relay calibration and testing
  • Proven experience with Electrical Field Testing standards such as NETA, IEEE, NFPA
  • Demonstrable knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV
  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and microprocessors or relay software
  • Demonstrable expertise in the use of the latest computer controlled solid-state test equipment
  • Technical software for testing purposes and data review
  • Administrative software: MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experienced in managing electrical drawings
  • Ability to meet minimum insurability standards based on a Motor Vehicle Report
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol test
  • Ability to pass seven (7) year background check
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 50+lbs with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 80%)

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays
  • Experience testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems including batteries and battery chargers
