About the position

Peraton is seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to support the NOAA customer in Melbourne, FL. This role involves developing, testing, and maintaining software applications for command and control systems related to satellite operations. The position allows for a hybrid work schedule, combining on-site and remote support, and is focused on the SWFO-L1 satellite mission, which aims to collect data from the Sun.

Responsibilities

  • Support a team of subject matter engineers for C2 Satellite Ground Station Command and Control applications ensuring system compatibility to meet program technical and schedule objectives.
  • Develop, test, and maintain software applications in use of command and control (C2) systems primarily using C, C++, and Java.
  • Collaborate with other software developers and cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement capabilities to support satellite operations.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Generate and maintain new and existing software applications for command and control (C2) systems.
  • Perform analysis, troubleshooting, anomaly resolution, and testing related to new and existing software applications.
  • Recognize and adopt best practices in documentation, testing, and efficient use of resources.
  • Utilize basic administration and configuration of RedHat Enterprise Linux to resolve configuration issues and integrate Red Hat Linux systems with other existing environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years experience with BS/BA degree; 3+ years experience with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD.
  • Solid understanding of programming concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Java.
  • Familiarity with build tools (Make).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • US citizen with ability to complete and pass a federal government Public Trust background investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Perl, Python, Bash).
  • Knowledge of version control systems (ClearCase/ClearQuest).
