About the position

The Mid-Level Systems Engineer - Performance Engineering role at KBR involves working within the Performance Engineering team to ensure that non-functional requirements for ground systems are met throughout the system development life cycle. The engineer will collaborate with NASA customers and other engineers to evaluate system performance characteristics, particularly during critical phases of human spaceflight operations.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting raw resource utilization data from workstations, servers, and networks from various environments.
  • Processing resource utilization data.
  • Managing, protecting, and retaining raw resource utilization data.
  • Providing resource metrics for platforms and networking devices.
  • Conducting impact assessments and cost analysis associated with critical designs.
  • Investigating system anomalies using current and historical data and user reports.
  • Maintaining technical performance measures.
  • Performing and supporting system testing and benchmarking.
  • Establishing baselines of current system behavior for specific investigations.
  • Estimating changes to system behavior due to modifications or additions.
  • Identifying trends that may violate resource constraints.
  • Providing specifications for new equipment based on current loads and required margins.
  • Supporting critical phases of manned spaceflight operations.
  • Performing cost, risk, and supportability analyses for MCC systems.
  • Conducting systems analysis, functional analysis, statistical analysis, trade studies, and requirements allocation.
  • Engaging in technical management and recommending enhancements to existing processes and procedures.
  • Developing automation scripts for handling big data.
  • Making improvements and suggestions to advance overall system performance capabilities.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, Math, or a related area.
  • 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to support schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or as an individual contributor.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong initiative.
  • Detail-oriented with good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with automation, Linux, and Python.
  • Windows Admin skills.
  • Experience with data mining and data management.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages and monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with requirements verification methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Service Now.
  • Leadership skills and understanding of data structures.
  • Experience in Data Science and Statistical learning.
  • Experience with networking, familiarity with Wireshark is a plus.
