About the position

The Middle & High School Long-Term Substitute Teacher (Spanish-Speaking) at Lakes International Language Academy is responsible for creating engaging and age-appropriate curriculum for grades 6-12, utilizing International Baccalaureate best practices. The role emphasizes hands-on learning, effective communication with parents, and collaboration with colleagues to foster a safe and welcoming classroom environment. This position is expected to last until June 9, 2025, with potential for extension based on performance and school needs.

Responsibilities

• Create engaging, age-appropriate curriculum and materials for grades 6-12.
• Utilize hands-on learning activities in daily instruction.
• Communicate program goals, activities, homework, events, and student progress to parents.
• Foster a safe and welcoming classroom environment using Developmental Designs and Responsive Classroom practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues and administrators on teaching strategies.
• Stay updated on trends and evaluation methods in language acquisition.
• Attend regular planning sessions and staff development.
• Participate in school-directed and personal professional development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in any field.
• Fluency in English, both oral and written communications.
• Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written communications.
• Valid Minnesota teaching license or ability to obtain one prior to the start of the school year.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in education.
• Teaching experience at the age level of the open position.
• Experience teaching in the International Baccalaureate DP and MYP.
• Experience with Developmental Designs and Responsive Classroom.
• Experience teaching or living abroad.
