About the position

The Middle School Athletic Director is responsible for overseeing the athletic programs at the assigned school, ensuring the promotion of student participation, safety, and compliance with regulations. This role involves managing events, coordinating with coaches, and maintaining communication with students, parents, and the community to foster a positive athletic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the athletic program to students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Emphasize skill development, healthy competition, good sportsmanship, and academic importance in athletics.
  • Encourage athletic participation in GRPS high school and collaborate with other middle school ADs.
  • Maintain professionalism and represent GRPS Athletics positively.
  • Schedule physicals and maintain medical records for student-athletes.
  • Ensure athletes have paid insurance fees and completed necessary paperwork.
  • Create and maintain accurate rosters for athletic teams.
  • Provide schedules and updates to coaches and building personnel.
  • Verify game details with officials and manage payment vouchers.
  • Manage home events, including hiring game help and documenting ticket sales.
  • Process paperwork for payments to officials and vendors.
  • Assist in hiring coaches and ensure all paperwork is completed.
  • Confirm transportation arrangements for athletes and communicate any issues.
  • Monitor academic and behavioral eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Ensure adult supervision for athletes at all events.
  • Set up safe environments for home games and communicate with custodial staff.
  • Keep accurate inventory of athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Document incidents throughout the season and submit evaluations to the district office.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and assist in fundraising events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Prior coaching experience and/or athletic experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Capacity to be bonded if required.
