About the position

The Milwaukee Academy of Science (MAS) is seeking a dedicated Building Substitute Teacher to join our team. Founded in 2000, MAS is a K4-12th grade independent charter school located in downtown Milwaukee, serving nearly 1,300 scholars. Our mission is to prepare students for post-secondary success, with a strong emphasis on academic achievement and personal growth. The student body is predominantly African American, with 99% of students qualifying for free or reduced meals. At MAS, we maintain high expectations for all students, ensuring they are on grade level and proficient in state assessments, regardless of their backgrounds. As a Building Substitute Teacher, you will play a crucial role in our educational framework. Your primary responsibility will be to implement the district curriculum using culturally responsive instructional strategies, monitor student progress, and analyze data to provide necessary interventions. You will step in to cover classes and full school days in the absence of teachers, ensuring that academic minutes are met. On days when you are not covering for a teacher, you will serve as a member of the student support team, assisting scholars and teachers both in and out of the classroom. Your efforts will help maintain a positive learning environment conducive to rigorous instruction and valuable educational experiences. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including the building principal, classroom teachers, student service personnel, and families. You will be expected to communicate effectively about student progress and work collaboratively to plan for student improvement. Additionally, you will participate in curriculum development, data analysis, and staff development planning, contributing to the overall growth and success of our educational programs.
