About the position

The Middle School Counselor at Eanes ISD is responsible for providing a proactive developmental and academic guidance program to support students' personal growth and development. This role involves counseling services, program development, and collaboration with school staff to enhance the educational experience of students.

Responsibilities

  • Implement appropriate school guidance curriculum.
  • Support Social Emotional Learning school-wide.
  • Counsel individuals and small groups.
  • Respond to campus and district crises as needed.
  • Work with the district counseling team to plan, implement, and evaluate school guidance and counseling programs.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of campus standardized testing program.
  • Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately.
  • Develop healthy and professional relationships with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to support students.
  • Work with school/district personnel and/or area resources to support students.
  • Use an effective referral process to help students access services within the school.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principal, teachers, and support staff.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in all areas.
  • Comply with all district and campus procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s).

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling field required.
  • Valid Texas counseling certificate or licensure as a licensed social worker, licensed professional counselor, licensed marriage and family therapist, or licensed specialist in school psychology.
  • Prefer school counseling certification with licensure.
  • Knowledge of academic programs and requirements in Texas.
  • Ability to engage in effective counseling strategies.
  • Understanding of schools and school cultures.
  • Knowledge of student assessment requirements including State of Texas assessments and college and career readiness assessments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Prior counseling experience preferred.
