About the position

The Upper Darby School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate Middle School Emotional Support Teacher to join our team on a full-time basis. This position is crucial in providing emotional and educational support to middle school students, helping them navigate their academic and personal challenges. The ideal candidate will possess a Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in Special Education (PK-12) and have a strong background in classroom management, instructional skills, and child development. The teacher will be responsible for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters the emotional and academic growth of students. As a member of the instructional staff, the Emotional Support Teacher will direct the learning of middle school students, aligning with the general and specific objectives of the school’s curricula. This role requires strong communication and motivational skills to effectively engage with students, staff, and parents/guardians. The teacher will utilize various instructional materials and equipment to enhance the learning experience and must be adept at organizing the classroom to deliver the Upper Darby School District's academic program effectively. Responsibilities

• Direct the learning of middle school students in an emotional support setting.
• Create and maintain a supportive and engaging classroom environment.
• Utilize instructional materials and equipment effectively to enhance learning.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
• Organize the classroom to deliver the academic program of the Upper Darby School District.
• Participate in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
• Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.

Requirements

• PA Instructional Certificate (Special Education PK-12) required.
• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate major study.
• Knowledge of content in area of certification.
• Classroom/group management skills.
• Ability to use instructional materials and equipment effectively.
• Knowledge of child growth and development.
• Strong instructional skills and planning abilities.
• Excellent human relations skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with middle school students in an emotional support capacity.
• Familiarity with the Upper Darby School District academic program.
• Additional certifications in special education or related fields.
