About the position

The Middle School English Teacher at Mount Vernon ISD is responsible for providing students with engaging learning activities and experiences in English language and literature. This part-time position involves teaching three periods per day, focusing on helping students achieve their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will develop lesson plans, assess student learning, and create a conducive classroom environment while collaborating with other staff members and maintaining communication with parents and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum requirements.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies and materials based on students' learning styles.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students as needed.
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aides and oversee their completion.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Sponsor extracurricular activities as assigned by the principal.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • One year of student teaching or approved internship experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with curriculum and instruction in English language and literature.
